Dom Welch a Game Time Decision Against Missouri
In the middle of the Crimson Tide's rout of the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the quarterfinals of the SEC men's basketball tournament, play was stopped for a moment to attend to Dom Welch as he played on the floor after taking a hard fall.
ESPN reported on the broadcast that he had suffered a tailbone injury not too long after he was assisted off the court, appearing unable to put weight on his right leg.
The fall came as Welch attempted to draw a charge call, something Nate Oats applauded him for in this postgame press conference.
"It was a big-time play he took taking that charge. It's unfortunate that Nimari fouled that guy from behind or that would've been a great charge. It kind of embodies what we're about. A kid comes off the bench and gives his body up for the betterment of the team," said Oats of the St. Bonaventure transfer.
Now, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports is reporting that Welch will be a game time decision.
Welch's production has been down massively compared to his time with the Bonnies. However, many of his points have come in big spots and provided the team juice during a lull in intensity. He also plays aggressive defense, something Oats loves.
Alabama takes on the Missouri Tigers Saturday at noon in the SEC Tournament semifinals.
