Evan Neal Impresses at NFL Combine
To say that Evan Neal is a physical specimen would be like saying the sky is blue.
The 6-foot-7 behemoth of an offensive tackle showed every single week, in his three years at Alabama, just how impressive he can be, but making his first appearance at the combine, Neal surprised even Alabama fans.
The former Crimson Tide anchor appeared noticeably trim when he took the podium Thursday, and informed reporters he had, in fact, shed some weight ahead of the combine.
Neal said he had weighed in at 337 lbs. just ahead of the event, leaving many to react in complete awe of the seemingly once in a lifetime prospect. All across social media, analysts and media personalities alike raved about Neal's impressive physique considering his weight.
Moving away from his pure physical attributes, Neal fielded multiple questions about the potential of him being selected first overall.
The former five-star out of Okeechobee, FL said, "We’ve had a whole lot of Alabama players that were worthy of having the No. 1 spot. If that would be me, that would be extremely special," Neal continued, "The whole state of Alabama would be proud and the University of Alabama would definitely be proud, for sure.”
Neal also mentioned he met with the Jacksonville Jaguars, saying, "It was a great meeting, some great interviews, great staff. I'm just excited to be here and I'm blessed with this opportunity."
Finally, Neal was asked, in the same vein of other Crimson Tide players who have attended the combine, to give his favorite Nick Saban story. After mulling the question over briefly, Neal gave his own memorable answer to the question.
The Jaguars hold the first overall selection in this year's draft and appear to be the perfect fit for Neal. In two of the last three drafts, Jacksonville has selected edge rushers, and, up to this point, both of them have worked out very well.
Cam Robinson is likely to hit free agency and Trevor Lawrence is in need of a capable left tackle, so selecting Neal should be a no-brainer for the Jags.
