Former Alabama Guard Wins G-League MVP
Portland, Me. - Alabama now has an MVP among the ranks at the next level in the world of professional basketball, with the NBA G-League announcing that Former Alabama guard JD Davison has been named NBA G-League MVP.

Davison plays for the Boston Celtics G-League affiliate, the Maine Celtics, while playing on a two-way contract with the defending NBA champions. He became the second MVP in program history, with Tim Frazier winning the D-League MVP during the 2014-15 season when the Celtics were known as the Maine Red Claws.
“His hard work and team-first attitude from day one with both the Boston and Maine Celtics have led to this achievement,” said Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens. “JD has embraced the idea of continuously improving, and we are thrilled for him.”
Davison led the way for the defending G-League conference champions with 25.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 7.4 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. The 22-year-old led Maine to a 21-13 record, advancing Maine back to the postseason for the third-straight year.
“JD has been nothing short of exceptional this season,” said Maine Celtics Head Coach and Boston Celtics Assistant Coach Tyler Lashbrook. “His work ethic and commitment to his own development are second to none, but his leadership and the guidance he provides to our locker room are what sets him apart. Winning the NBA G League MVP is a testament to all of those qualities. He truly impacts winning in every way, and we’re very proud of him.”
Davison is already one of the top players in Maine Celtics history, owning the record for most career points (2,677), assists (1,065), steals (158), games played (133), and made field goals (994).
He was drafted with the 53rd pick in the 2022 NBA draft after playing one season of college basketball at Alabama. During his time with the Crimson Tide, Davison averaged 8.5 points, 4.3 assists, and 4.8 rebounds per game while shooting 46.3 percent from the field and 30.1 percent from three-point range in the 2021-2022 season.
