Former Alabama Receiver Sidelined at Training Camp with Injury

Former Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith did not practice at Eagles camp on Thursday due to a groin injury.

"Again, we're being cautious with him. We know how important he is to this work of this organization. And I don't know exactly a play, but you know, they're running a lot. He's, he's always at the top of the charts of who ran the most and so, just a little bit of wear and tear there," said Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni.

The former Heisman was drafted at No. 10 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, joining former Tide teammate Jalen Hurts. During his rookie campaign, Smith became the starting wide receiver for the Eagles, seeing time every game, including 16 starts. He caught 64 receptions for 916 yards and five touchdowns.

Smith played four seasons with the Tide, becoming a major part of Alabama history from the very start of his college career to the very end.

In 2018, the true freshman caught the infamous 2nd&26 game-winning pass from Tua Tagovailoa to give Alabama the 26-23 national championship victory over Georgia in overtime.

In 2020, the La., native had a record-smashing season, breaking the SECs receiving yards and touchdown records, the most touchdowns in FBS Power-5 history, and broke most receptions, yards in a half, and touchdowns in the 2020 College Football Playoff Game against Ohio State.

Smith left the Capstone highly decorated, winning the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award, Biletnikoff Award, AP College Football Player of the Year, SEC Offensive Player of the Year, and became the first receiver to win the Heisman since 1991.

According to ESPNs Eagles reporter Tim McManus, Smith is considered day-to-day.
