In remembrance of the tornadoes on April 27, 2011, Ryan Fowler of the Game on TIDE 100.9 hosted Wesley Britt, a former Alabama football player who was directly affected by the Tuscaloosa tornado.

In the interview, Britt recounted having to go into shelter with his family during the storm, the destruction of his house, and how the disaster strengthened his Christian faith.

Additionally, the Alabama alumnus described how his time with the Crimson Tide football team gave him the strength to protect his children. This same team, which went on to win two straight national titles, came to Britt and his family’s rescue soon after the storm was over, chainsaws, equipment and all.

Britt also shared memories of his time playing for Alabama in the early 2000s.

One of the most notable aspects of Britt’s story is that of the football that was picked up by the tornado. Eventually, the football landed at Cecil Hurts’s house, the longtime Alabama beat writer for the Tuscaloosa News.
