Former UA Player Tears ACL During NBA Game on Wednesday

Former Alabama basketball guard Kira Lewis Jr. is out indefinitely after tearing his ACL on Wednesday night, during the Pelicans vs Nuggets game.

Lewis was drafted No. 13 overall in the 2020 NBA Draft by the New Orleans Pelicans. Slowly but surely, he became a notable bench player on this rebuilding Pelicans team and has continued to show growth and progress throughout his professional career. So far this season, he averaged 5.9 PPG, 1.6 RPG, and 2.0 APG.

According to the official injury release, the Pelicans put out this evening, "The New Orleans Pelicans announced today that guard Kira Lewis Jr. will be out indefinitely after suffering a torn ACL and a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his right knee. An MRI done last night at Ochsner Health confirmed the injury, which occurred during the second quarter of last night’s game against the Denver Nuggets. A date for surgery has not yet been determined."

Lewis played two seasons with the Crimson Tide, from 2018-2020. During his tenure, he averaged 15.9 PPG, 3.6 RPG, and 4.0 APG. He was on the SEC All Freshman Team in 2019 and First-team All-SEC in 2020.
