Houston Mallette Has Been Approved for His Medical Redshirt
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Houston Mallette, Alabama men's basketball guard, has officially been granted a medical redshirt by the NCAA and will return to the Crimson Tide for the 2025-26 season, according to Aaron Suttles of Yea Alabama.

He is the fourth Crimson Tide player from the 2024-25 roster that will return, joining guards Aden Holloway and Latrell Wrightsell Jr., and forward Aiden Sherrell.
Mallette transferred to Alabama from Pepperdine University last season. The 6-foot-5 guard was expected to be a great addition to the Crimson Tide's backcourt, but unfortunately he missed majority of the season due to lingering knee pains.
Mallette debuted on December 4 at North Carolina, recording six points and three rebounds. He then posted a season-high 10 points against North Dakota on December 18. Across his six appearances, Mallette averaged 3.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game, while shooting 50% from 3-point range.
With months of rehabilitation and dedicated practice, he could be poised for a standout final collegiate season. In his limited appearances, Mallette demonstrated flashes of potential and playmaking ability
“I just want to first off thank God just to be able to even be in this position,” Mallette told Yea Alabama. “And I want to really thank Clarke Holter; he’s the best athletic trainer in the entire world. He helped me in so many different ways this season, with just battling a lot of knee pain and kind of like this chronic knee tendonitis. So he’s the best in the world at what he does. And then also Henry Barrera, who’s our strength and conditioning coach, and Amanda Branson, our nutritionist, they both helped me get back right. I’m just really excited to come back to this university. I love the University of Alabama. This is a blessing. If I could be here 10 more years, I’d stay here 10 more years.”
