Mac Jones Expected to Start After Being Benched on MNF
Field Yates has reported that Mac Jones will keep his starting job despite being benched on Monday Night Football in favor of 4th-round rookie Bailey Zappe.
Belichick benched Jones in the 2nd quarter of MNF against the Chicago Bears after Jones was 3-6 passing with 16 yards and an interception.
Monday night was Jone's first game back from injury, after he suffered a high ankle sprain in the Patriots Week 3 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. During that time, Former Western Kentucky quarterback Bailey Zappe led the Patriots to a 2-1 record, boasting a stat line of 51-70 (72.9%) for 596 yards, four touchdowns and one interception.
So far on the year it has not looked pretty for the Alabama alumnus, with Jones only throwing for 799 yards on 67-103 (65%) passing. He has thrown three times more interceptions (6) than touchdowns (2) in four games.
The Patriots desperately need Jones to light a spark in the Patriots as the team currently sits at the bottom of the AFC East at 3-4. The team is set to head to East Rutherford to take on its division rival, the 5-2 New York Jets.
