Nate Oats Hires Another NBA Assistant

Alabama basketball has been in the search for an assistant coach this offseason now that Alabama has completed the roster construction for its 2024-2025 season.

Alabama is returning the NBA for another assistant coach.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Nate Oats and Alabama are hiring Brian Adams of the Detroit Pistons as the third assistant coach on Alabama's staff.

Adams joined Detroit midway through last season after working the previous decade with Doc Rivers in Philadelphia and Los Angeles (Clippers).

Oats is well known for running an NBA-style team in Tuscaloosa, with at least one coach on his staff being from the NBA. Charlie Henry, one of Oats's first assistants in Tuscaloosa, coached the Chicago Bulls's G League team before arriving in Tuscaloosa. Current Alabama basketball assistant Ryan OPannone as with the New Orleans Pelicans before coming to Alabama as well.

The hire of Adams replaces Austin Claunch, who accepted the head coaching job at UTSA in the midst of Alabama's NCAA Final Four run.

Alabama's coaching staff is now complete, with Preston Murphy, Ryan Pannone, and Brian Adams on staff with Nate Oats as the Tide's head coach.

Oats has seen unprecedented turnover among his staff given the early success he has had in Tuscaloosa. With a Final Four on his resume and one of the best on-paper basketball teams in the country, Oats will have big expectations to fill entering his fifth season in Tuscaloosa.
