No. 23 Alabama Forces Rubber Match Against No. 6 Georgia
TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- No. 23 Alabama (38-13, 14-12 SEC) defeated No. 6 Georgia (40-12, 16-10 SEC) 6-3 in Friday's game two that was suspended due to bad weather and resumed on Sunday morning with the Tide forcing a rubber match in game three which will be played on Sunday as well.

Georgia jumped out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to two singles to open the game from the Bulldogs' center fielder Nolan McCarthy and third baseman Slate Alfrod. Following these two singles, Robbie Burnett grounded out to Justin LeBron but still managed to drive home Nolan McCarthy to give the visiting team the first run of the ballgame. Right after Burnett's RBI, Georgia's first baseman Tre Phelps added on to his incredible day with Phelps coming away with an RBI single to make it 2-0 going into the bottom of the first, and to give the first baseman his seventh RBI of the night.
Alabama responded in the bottom of the first when the Crimson Tide's star shortstop launched a two-run home run right into the left field scoreboard with LeBron’s 17th time going yard this year being a 395-foot bomb with an exit velocity of 104 miles per hour. This home run made it a 2-2 ball game.
Later in the inning, Kade Snell and Richie Bonomolo Jr. were walked. Snell advanced to third base on a wild pitch, which set the Tide up perfectly with Garrett Staton knocking a sac fly to center field to drive home Snell to give the Tide its first lead since the start of the fifth inning in Friday's 19-3 game one loss to Georgia.
The Tide added another run before the first inning ended, thanks to an RBI single by Alabama's third baseman, Jason Torres, who brought home Bonomolo Jr. to give the Tide a two-run lead heading into the second inning.
Georgia was in scoring position in the top of the second inning with baserunners on first and third with two outs, but Alabama's starting pitcher for game two, Riley Quick, did a great job denying the baserunners from scoring with the right-handed pitcher forcing Alfrod into a line out, while coming away with a strikeout in the inning. The score remained 4-2 going into the bottom of the second.
Quick continued his solid outing in the third inning. The redshirt-sophomore pitcher finished the inning with a pair of strikeouts to add to his total on the day: four strikeouts going into the bottom of the third inning. However, Quick finished Friday's game two, recording seven strikeouts while allowing only seven hits and two runs throughout 4.1 innings.
The Crimson Tide added to its lead in the fourth inning when Alabama left fielder Bryce Fowler hit his sixth home run of the season, a two-run home run that just barely stayed inside the foul pole in left field. Fowler's home run gave the Tide a commanding 6-2 lead heading into the fifth inning.
In the top of the fifth inning in game two, the two teams had to stop due to poor weather conditions, which forced the officials to suspend the contest and set its resume date for Sunday. When the game resumed on Sunday, Alabama's Braylon Myers took over pitching duties for Quick. The senior pitcher checked in and retired the first two batters he faced, to conclude the top of the fifth.
Georgia came close to cutting into the Tide's four-run lead in the sixth inning when the Bulldogs got a runner on third base with one out, but Myers picked off Georgia's Hunter Henry at second base to give the Tide two outs. Myers brought the side to an end when he struck out the Bulldogs' third baseman, Slate Alfrod, which forced Georgia to leave a runner stranded at third base for the second straight inning.
Alabama's offense was stagnant once the game resumed, with the Tide being unable to find any rhythm offensively in the fifth and sixth innings, as a result of strong pitching from Georgia's DJ Radtke, holding the Crimson Tide to only two hits throughout the fifth and sixth innings.
The Bulldogs' second baseman, Ryan Black, knocked a sac fly out to right field to drive home left fielder Robbie Burnett to cut into the Tide's four-run lead, making the score 6-3 going into the bottom of the seventh inning after Georgia failed to add any more runs with Myers striking out Ryan Black to conclude the side leaving the visiting team with a runner stranded at third base once again.
In the eighth inning, Alabama's star closing pitcher Carson Ozmer checked into the game to secure a win for the Tide, as he checked in to replace Myers, who had an impressive outing in his 2.2 innings pitched, which saw the senior pitcher record four strikeouts, allow one run, and three hits.
Alabama added some insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning when the Crimson Tide's center fielder, Richie Bonomolo Jr., knocked a three-run home run over left field to give the Tide a 9-3 lead going into the final inning of play.
Ozmer made history recording his 15th save of the season, which breaks Alabama's single-season record for saves, which was currently 14. The star pitcher went on to finish the day recording two strikeouts, allowing two hits, and zero runs throughout two innings.
