Tuscaloosa, Ala. - The Crimson Tide's loss in the Elite Eight stung the Crimson Tide faithful, but a report that Nate Oats was interested in another job would have stung even more.

A report from an unverified reporter on X mentioned Alabama head coach Nate Oats as having interest in the recently opened Maryland Terrapins head coaching job. Maryland's previous head coach, Kevin Willard, departed the program for Villanova after the Terrapins fell to Colorado State in the round of 32 in the NCAA tournament.

Brian Greenblatt was the first, and only, to report of Oats' interest in Maryland, citing frustration with the SEC's revenue distribution model and Alabama's financial commitment to football over basketball.

However, Jeff Goodman of the Field of 68 quickly shut down the rumor, saying "no truth to it" about Oats and the recent chatter about the Terappins' open coaching job.

Maryland is the second head coaching opening Oats has been linked to this offseason, with Texas reaching out to Oats earlier in the offseason when Rodney Terry was relieved of his duties as the Longhorns' head basketball coach.

With the success Oats has at Alabama in just six seasons, there is no doubt he will be high on several head coaching lists. So far, Oats has shut down every rumor of his candidacy for other head coaching openings, including Kentucky last offseason.
