The University of South Alabama says it's exploring whether to build a football stadium on its campus in Mobile.

The school announced the exploratory process on Monday.

The review includes consideration of the finances and infrastructure needed to build a stadium on the university campus. The school says a small group of trustees, administrators and staff members will review the feasibility of a new stadium.

The school's football team currently plays at the city-owned Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, but the stadium is miles from campus.

South Alabama went 6-7 last year and played in the first bowl game in school history.
