Stallions Get Swallowed by Breakers for First Loss of the Season
The Birmingham Stallions have gone down for the first time this season and the second time in franchise history, losing to the New Orleans Breakers 43-31.
It was a high scoring game with a big quarterback battle between the Stallions' Alex McGough and the Breakers' McLeod Bethel-Thompson. Bethel-Thompson threw for three touchdowns, while McGough threw for two. Both quarterbacks also threw one interception, their first of the season.
The Stallions' defense struggled nearly the entire game as they allowed Breakers running back Wes Hills to score three rushing touchdowns. Bethel-Thompson's three passing touchdowns adds up to a total of six touchdowns allowed.
In a late fourth quarter drive, the Stallions had a strong chance to stop the Breakers from extending their lead to two touchdowns. However, holding and pass interference calls from the Stallions' defense caused the Breakers to get to the end zone with ease for the dagger.
The Stallions will have a chance to redeem themselves as they travel to Canton, Ohio, to take on the Pittsburgh Maulers next Saturday May 7. The game will start at 5:30 p.m. CST and will be televised on FS1.
