Nate Oats has once again made a major move on the recruiting trail for The University of Alabama men's basketball team. RJ Johnson, the No. 1 recruit in the state of Alabama, made his commitment this afternoon to join Oats and company in Tuscaloosa.

Johnson, a 6'2, 190 lb combo guard, is currently listed as a three-star prospect according to 247Sports out of Grisson High School in Huntsville, Ala. He is the second player in the 2023 class to make his verbal commitment to the Tide after Sam Walters' commitment earlier this summer.

Johnson announced his commitment via Twitter.

Johnson will join an Alabama team that puts heavy emphasis on guard play and its ability to make plays on the perimeter and in space. Johnson's ability to shoot and handle the basketball should allow him to make an impact on the court early on.

Johnson will have his senior season to move up many recruiting databases and move into the upper tier of players in the country.

Oats will likely plan to use Johnson's elite downhill speed and passing ability to give other teams fits in transition when he hands him the keys to the offense.

This step forward helps serve as a major push in Alabama recruiting, and should be a building block in acquiring another top recruiting class for Oats.
