Vanderbilt’s Head Coach Mark Byington Following 103-87 Loss to Alabama Tuesday
Commodores head coach Mark Byington gave a press conference after Vanderbelt's 103-87 defeat to Alabama at Coleman Coliseum on Tuesday to discuss his team's performance.

Byington began his press conference by expressing how he wanted to watch how his team would perform against Alabama in a packed Coleman Coliseum. Vanderbilt's head coach did not believe his team was prepared for that occasion, stating, "You know we're not there yet to be able to beat a team like that."
Byington praised the Crimson Tide's defense, which collected 35 defensive rebounds compared to Vanderbilt's 22. Byington stated, "They stifled us in the first half." We couldn't get the looks we wanted." The Tide limited Vanderbilt to 31 first-half points.
When asked what the Alabama guards did well to keep Vanderbilt from getting several steals, Byington responded, "They were real aggressive and they put their heads down and they were either getting to the rim, getting to the free-throw line, or creating something for somebody else." Alabama's senior guard Mark Sears went 10-13 at the free-throw line and had 7 assists in Tuesday's win.
Byington discussed his team's errors with Vanderbilt's head coach, stating, "I think we made a lot of mistakes." Byington added, "They capitalize on your mistakes, and some of those are missed layups and things around the realm." The Commodores were 6-24 on layups in Tuesday's loss.
Vanderbilt will finish 15-4 this season and 3-3 in conference play. The Commodores will seek to put this setback behind them when they visit the ninth-ranked Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday, January 25th, 2025, at Vanderbilt University Memorial Gym in Nashville, Tennessee.
