Week 5 Bama Pro of the Week: Josh Jacobs
Marching into Arrowhead Stadium and coming away with a win is one of the most difficult tasks a team can face in the NFL. Thanks to Josh Jacobs's two-touchdown performance, the Las Vegas Raiders did just that, improving the Silver and Black to a 3-2 record on the young season.
A back and forth game saw the Raiders take advantage in the fourth quarter as Jacobs made use of 10 touches to the tune of 41 yards and both of his touchdowns. Jacobs has been the lifeblood of his team, carrying the load early in the season as the young receivers around him catch up to the NFL speed.
He helps them do just that in his own way, proving to be the offensive MVP of a promising team. Jacobs hit a crucial pass block on a blitzing Chiefs' linebacker which gave his quarterback Derek Carr just enough time to launch a deep ball to former Alabama star Henry Ruggs III, marking the rookie's first NFL touchdown.
On the day, Jacobs had 23 rushes for 77 yards and two catches for eight yards.
Jacobs continues to make his mark as a bowling ball pounding through pins against opposing defenses, trailing only Minnesota Viking Dalvin Cook for yards after contact.
Though Jacobs has followed up a stellar rookie season with a hot start, the 22-year-old back is never satisfied, seeking constant improvement. After Sunday's 40-32 win over the then-first place Chiefs, Jacobs mentioned he's taking career advice from Raiders Hall of Fame running back Marcus Allen.
Jacobs leads the league in rushing attempts with 106, a testament to the run-first scheme of head coach Jon Gruden. With 377 yards and five touchdowns on the ground, Jacobs currently sits in second place on the rushing leaderboard behind Dalvin Cook (489 yards and seven touchdowns.)
With a tough Tampa Bay defense up next, there's no doubt the Raiders will continue to lean on Jacobs to push for position in the AFC playoff race.
