Women’s Basketball Coach Kristy Curry SEC Media Day Recap
Women's basketball wrapped up their Southeastern Conference media day on Wednesday. The team has high expectations after coming off of their best season under coach Kristy Curry.

Last season, the Tide finished the with a 24-10 record, marking its first 10-win SEC season since 1997-98, another 20-plus win season, and a freshman selected to the All-Freshman team in the SEC. It was the Tide's third straight 20-plus win season, the first since 1998-99. The team then claimed a spot in the NCAA Tournament, where they advanced to the second round and ultimately lost 65-54 to the Texas Longhorns.
Now, the Tide has regrouped and added key additions to their roster along with the return of their dynamic duo featuring Sarah Ashlee Barker and Aaliyah Nye.
At the moment, the Tide is ranked No .24 in the AP Poll and No. 15 in the SEC ahead of the 2024-2025 season. "I think it's important to understand to us it shows the progress of our program, but we want to focus on the finish. So we're not going to get caught up in this and that. We're going to be caught up in being the best version we can be every day," said Curry regarding the AP Poll rank.
Coach Curry speaks highly about getting better each day and the importance of being "where your feet are." She has been in a program where the rebuilding process has occurred, whether a team has been ranked or unranked, but she emphasizes the importance of pushing through and continuing to build a resume. With the return of Baker and Nye, and their improvement from last season to now, they will combine well with Curry's "getting better" motto. "To go from 6.9 points a game to First Team All-SEC a year ago, I don't think coaches can take a credit for that. I think it's a player's energy, drive and determination. Aaliyah Nye, she's improved her ability to put the ball on the floor. I think you'll see her get to the free-throw line a whole lot more. She's the best returning shooter in the country because she gets in the gym and constantly shoots," said Curry.
In an effort to improve, Pauline Love has joined the coaching staff. "Coach knows what she's talking about. It's amazing to have her energy, her passion, her expertise, her experience, her SEC experience. It was a huge hire for us," said Curry.
With the Tide's dedication, commitment to improvement, and key additions to this year's team, fans can look forward to another great season. The Tide's first game of the season will be at Coleman Coliseum on Nov. 4 against the New Orleans Privateers at 5 p.m. CT.
