On Saturday, the Alabama defense looked lethargic and played with no effort. Some people chalked it up to confusion on the defensive side of the football, but Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack rebuffed that thought process during his press conference on Monday.

"We were not surprised by anything," Kane Wommack said.

Alabama's second-year defensive coordinator, previously the head coach at South Alabama, said it's on the players to correct the mistakes from Saturday.

"We were prepared for a number of things that they were doing, including some of the trick plays and a number of their run game things. We did not, we did not play to the level that we are capable of as a defense. And so we've got to own that as a coaching staff. We got to own that as players, which I think we are. But I have great confidence in our guys that they will get that corrected, and quickly."

Are the issues against mobile quarterbacks and trick plays, dating back to Alabama's 40-35 loss to Diego Pavia and Vanderbilt last October, fixable?

"100% those things will get fixed, and looking forward to seeing our guys do it on Saturday."

Who is stepping up and leading the charge for Alabama?

"Every player on our defense right now."

Alabama will take on the ULM Warhawks on Saturday at 6:45 p.m. CT.
