Alabama Lands 18 on Preseason All-SEC List
Athlon Sports has officially released its preseason All-SEC team for the upcoming college football season, including a conference leading 18 players from the Crimson Tide.
Quarterback Bryce Young headlines the first team offense; in his lone season as a starter in 2021, the junior threw for over 4,800 yards and 47 touchdowns, leading the Tide to an SEC championship and berth in the national title game.
Hailing from Southern California originally, Young passed up on playing for his home state USC Trojans to suit up for Nick Saban and the decision has paid dividends.
Also featured on the first team offense are newcomer Jahmyr Gibbs and veteran guard Emil Ekiyor, both of which are expected to be major contributors at their positions this year.
Moving over to the defense and rounding out the Tide players featured on the first team, stars Will Anderson and Henry To'o To'o are listed alongside Jordan Battle and Byron Young.
On the second team, Georgia transfer Jermaine Burton is the sole offensive player, but Dallas Turner and Eli Ricks both get the nod on defense. As for special teams, Will Reichard earns his spot on the list and Gibbs makes another appearance but as a return man.
The third team features two more Bama stars in Cameron Latu and Kool-Aid McKinstry who could both see breakout seasons.
Finally, the fourth team wraps up the list and names Javion Cohen to the offense with D.J. Dale, Brian Branch and Demarcco Hellams landing on the defense.
The Tide leads the entire conference with the most preseason All-SEC selections and is shaping up for a revenge tour in 2022 to avenge last season's national championship loss to Georgia.
