TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama women's basketball secured its first Southeastern Conference win on Sunday afternoon at Coleman Coliseum, defeating the Arkansas Razorbacks 77-48.

MTSU transfer Ta'Mia Scott had a career-high night, helping the Crimson Tide take an early lead in the first quarter. The Crimson Tide opened with a 13-7 run in the first six minutes, with Scott scoring eight points.

Alabama would then close out the first quarter with an 11-point lead (25-14).

In the second quarter, the Crimson Tide maintained their momentum as Essence Cody began to dominate. The Crimson Tide outscored the Razorbacks 19-10, with Cody leading the team with eight points, two rebounds, and one steal in just six minutes. The Crimson Tide entered halftime with a 20-point lead, their largest of the season (44-24).

 

As in the first half, Alabama came out strong, with Cody and Jessica Timmons each scoring five points to contribute to a 13-8 run to start the third quarter.

Later in the third, the Crimson Tide achieved their largest lead of the game, 32 points, with layups from Waiata Jennings and Scott and a 3-pointer from Karly Weathers, sealing another dominant quarter (67-35).

Despite the Razorbacks' attempt to gain momentum with a 9-4 run in the middle of the fourth quarter, the Crimson Tide continued to extend their lead, securing a 77-48 victory.

This win was not only the Crimson Tide's first SEC win of the season but also held significant meaning as many former Alabama women's basketball players returned to Coleman Coliseum for alumni weekend. Additionally, Kristy Curry celebrated the significant win in front of former women's basketball coach Rick Moody.
