Collin Sexton Back in Tuscaloosa For Offseason Training
Former Crimson Tide star and one of just six lottery picks in program history, Collin Sexton, stopped in Tuscaloosa for a workout amidst what is shaping up to be a tumultuous offseason for the young point guard.
Sexton, a former five-star prospect out of Pebblebrook High School in Mableton, GA, turned down offers from big-time basketball powerhouses like Kansas, North Carolina and Arizona for the option to play under Avery Johnson at Alabama. In his single season for the Crimson Tide, Sexton averaged 19.2 points while shooting nearly 50% from the floor and helped guide Alabama to their first NCAA Tournament berth since 2012.
Most fans remember Sexton fondly for his knack for scoring tough buckets when the team needed them most, especially in Alabama's matchup with Texas A&M in the 2018 SEC Tournament where Sexton made the game winning layup as time expired to propel the Crimson Tide to the NCAA Tournament.
The eighth overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, Sexton has looked to be a bright spot in an otherwise dreadful organization as he has led the Cavaliers in scoring for the last two seasons. Recent rumors; however, have indicated Cleveland is looking for an opportunity to trade their talented guard this offseason.
In his first three seasons, Sexton has put up more than solid numbers, averaging around 20 points per game on 45% shooting and adding 3.4 assists and 0.8 steals per game. While not eye-popping numbers, they are more than serviceable for a player entering just his fourth season.
If Cleveland decides to move on from the "Young Bull", it is hard to imagine a scenario where they don't regret it as many teams appear to be very open to the possibility of adding Sexton to their roster. A player as young and talented as Sexton is very highly sought after in the NBA, and teams will likely be willing to pay a premium for him.
