By now news has spread to the world of the tragic shooting death of Alabama native and country singer-songwriter Wayne Mills.

The incident happened around 5am on Saturday morning at a bar in Nashville called Pit and Barrel. Owner Chris Ferrell told police he shot Mills, 44, in self-defense, according to a Nashville police statement.

Wayne Mills died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville hours after the shooting, according to his manager J.R. Smith.

On Sunday night, television network Spike TV aired an episode of their show 'Bar Rescue' featuring the Pit and Barrel. The show stars a long-time food & beverage industry consultant offering his professional expertise to desperately failing bars in order to save them from closing.

The show was set to air Sunday night and immediately the protest began from fans of Wayne Mills. The network, for whatever reason cancelled the first airing of the show but didn't cancel the second airing 3 hour later. Enraged supporters took to Spike TV's Facebook page to air their disgust with the network.

It didn't stop there, an online petition asking "for a formal apology to the family of Jerald Wayne Mills by Spike Digital Entertainment" was created by fans.

This morning, Spike TV issued a statement on their website and apology that read,

In our last minute effort over the weekend to pull the “Bar Rescue” episode featuring the Pit and Barrel, we regretfully did not remove a late-night telecast of the episode. We apologize to all those affected by the terrible tragedy over the weekend and to Jon Taffer, the production team, and our advertisers for our unfortunate human error.

The apology does not specifically name "the family of Jerald Wayne Mills" as Mr. Samson's petition stated but the network did acknowledge the mistake.
