According to Tony Tsoukalas of BamaInsider, the Alabama Crimson Tide program has had at least five members of the football team test positive for COVID-19. The university has not confirmed the report or revealed the names of the players who reportedly tested positive, citing player privacy regulations.

The Crimson Tide players held a player led workout yesterday on Butler Field, the practice field for The Million Dollar Band. AL.com's Matt Zenitz reports that at least one of the players who tested positive was in attendance at that player-led gathering.

AL.com's Matt Zentiz also provided the university's statement on the situation.

CBS42's Simone Eli reported that it was one lineman, one quarterback and a couple skill position players.

The father of Mac Jones tweeted that his son did not test positive and has not tested positive for COVID-19.

The SEC voted to allow voluntary offseason workouts to begin on June 8. As part of that process beginning, players returned to Tuscaloosa and subjected themselves to  COVID-19 testing. It is unclear what the program's next step will be with the players who have tested positive.

The players must follow new sanitation and social-distancing guidelines during the voluntary workouts in order to prevent and or limit the spread of coronavirus.

Tsoukalas reports that at least five players have tested positive, leaving room for the possibility of more that five positive tests.

Also according to Tsoukalas, highly touted cornerback, Patrick Surtain Jr. did return to Tuscaloosa to prepare for the offseason workouts and submit himself to the COVID-19 test the other players are taking. It initially appeared Surtain Jr. may stay at his home in Florida and prepare for the season with his father after his father made interesting comments on ESPN Radio's Golic and Wingo Show.

Surtain Jr. did end up returning to Tuscaloosa today and is expected to begin voluntary offseason workouts with the rest of the team on June 8.
