The former Alabama standout has recently been encouraged to use innovative tools aimed at accelerating his development - most notably, cutting edge virtual reality (VR) technology. According to Seahawks insider Brian Nemhauser, the coaching staff has asked Milroe to use VR systems to enhance his ability to read defensive progressions and improve his timing - two areas critical for NFL quarterbacks.

This technology became a staple in the training regimen of young quarterback Jayden Daniels, the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner and the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders.

Virtual reality training in football involves immersive software that allows quarterbacks to replay game scenarios from a first-person perspective. By putting on a VR headset, players can virtually step back into past games or practice reps, reviewing each play from their own vantage point. Some systems even offer real-time simulations of different defensive looks and route combinations, helping players mentally rehearse decisions without taking a physical snap.

The technology is especially helpful in working on progression reads - moving from a first to a second or third receiver option - as well as timing and anticipation. Rather than relying solely on traditional film study, quarterbacks can repeatedly walk through scenarios in real-time, reinforcing correct reads and habits in a more intuitive way.

For Milroe, who is known for his athleticism and deep-ball prowess, the expectation is for him to become more comfortable in an NFL system. The addition of VR to his training allows unlimited repetition in a controlled environment, which is critical for a young quarterback learning a more complex system. With the new training, adding more skills to his game, and possibly sitting behind Sam Darnold, the dual-threat quarterback can be something special for years to come.
