Javian Davis, the redshirt freshman forward from Mississippi announced Thursday that he would be entering the transfer portal.

This news comes just under a week after power forward Alex Tchikou announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide. The arrival of the 6-foot-11 player from France could have been one of the reasons that Davis decided to leave the program.

During his time with the Tide, Davis started in 14 of his 31 appeared games. During the 2019-20 season, Davis scored 60 points (averaging 8.6 points per game), accounted for 37 rebounds, and shot 20-for-26 (.769) from the free-throw line. Off the court, the forward earned SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll accolades.

As a high schooler, Davis was once ranked second in the whole state of Mississippi and was valued as a four-star athlete.

It is yet to be seen where Davis will decide to transfer to, but it is expected that he will either stay in Alabama or go home to Mississippi.

With this news, Alabama now frees up a valuable scholarship spot. After guard John Petty Jr. announced recently that he is still undecided on whether to enter the NBA Draft, this could mean that if Petty decides to return to the Capstone, he could come back to the team as a scholarship player. Petty has until August 17th to make his decision.

During the 2019-20 season, Petty led the SEC in three-point percentage, so a Petty return could be great news for Crimson Tide fans.

While the Davis transfer news can mean big implications for the team, one thing is sure- we will miss Davis, and we wish him the best wherever he chooses to go.
