Tide Transfer Portal Additions: Alabama adds TAMU DL
The Alabama Crimson Tide have turned up the heat during a cold week in Tuscaloosa. In addition to adding Jayshawn Ross to its 2024 class, the Crimson Tide get more help on the defensive side of the ball.
Former five-star defensive lineman LT Overton has committed to the Crimson Tide out of the transfer portal. Overton spent two seasons at Texas A&M before entering the portal. As a true freshman in 2022, Overton accounted for 31 tackles and had one sack. He had a bit of a slump his sophomore season with just 17 tackles, but his presence can still be felt on the defensive line.
With the likely departure of Justin Eboigbe to the NFL, and losing Anquin Barnes and Isaiah Hastings to the transfer portal, Alabama needed some depth defensively. It is currently unknown if Tim Keenan will return or declare for the NFL Draft following his breakout season, which included 36 tackles and a sack prior to the playoff games.

Overton is joining a defensive line room led by current sophomore and rising junior Jaheim Oatis. Depending on Keenan's decision, Alabama's defensive line room could be a strength for 2024, with Keenan, Oatis, and senior Tim Smith depending on his post-season decision. If Keenan decides to test the NFL waters, then the Crimson Tide will rely on James Smith, a freshman from Montgomery, Alabama who has seen playing time sparingly this season.
Overton is the first commitment from the transfer portal for Alabama, and might not be the last. He was the number six overall recruit in 2022.
