Tagovailoa suffered two confirmed concussions during the 2022 NFL season and suffered a third confirmed concussion on Thursday Night Football as the Dolphins took on the Bills in Miami.

It was announced that Tagovailoa would not retire from the NFL, and instead, meet with a concussion specialist to ensure he returns on the correct timeline.

Tagovailoa will have plenty of time to recover, as it was announced on Tuesday that the former Heisman finalist and first-round pick will be placed on Injured Reserve for the Dolphins, meaning he will miss at minimum the next four games for the Dolphins.

The earliest possible return date for Tagovailoa would be the Dolphins' October 27 matchup with the Arizona Cardinals. However, Miami is committed to allowing Tagovailoa to work through the concussion protocol on his timeline.

The Dolphins don't want to rush their $52 million man back too early.

Through 1.5 games played in 2024, Tagovailoa accounted for 483 yards completing 64.5% of his passes with two touchdowns. He also added 28 yards rushing on the ground.

The Dolphins have a 35-20 record with Tua Tagovailoa as their starting quarterback since he took over midway through the 2020 NFL season. Without Tagovailoa, the Dolphins are just 5-9.
