The Alabama Crimson Tide have been hunting in the transfer portal for players who fit the Tide's new schemes with Kalen DeBoer on offense and Kane Wommack on defense.

Alabama has landed several transfer defensive backs to bolster its secondary, which was a position of concern for Crimson Tide fans due to the lack of experienced depth at the position. Alabama fixed that problem with commitments from DaShawn Jones and Kameron Howard, who both have starting experience. The Crimson Tide also earned a commitment from a top-90 player in the 2023 recruiting class in King Mack.

Another position of concern for Crimson Tide fans was the offensive line. With the departures of JC Latham to the Tennessee Titans and Seth McLaughlin to Ohio State via the transfer portal, the Crimson Tide were thin along the offensive line.

Alabama was expected to have some competition at the center position with James Brockermeyer and the addition of Washington transfer Parker Brailsford, but Brailsford missed the majority of spring practice. Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer mentioned last week that Brailsford is expected back with the Tide during the Summer workout program. James Brockermeyer also left the program during the spring window, transferring to TCU.

Brailsford was not the only addition to Alabama's offensive line. Kadyn Proctor, who transferred away from Alabama during the transfer window that opened once Nick Saban retired, transferred back to Alabama during the spring transfer window. Despite the additions of Proctor and Brailsford, Alabama was still searching for depth in the transfer portal, and they just picked up a versatile lineman with starting experience in the Big 10.

According to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports, Michigan State transfer Geno VanDeMark has committed to Alabama.

The 6-foot-5, 320-pound offensive lineman brings starting experience with him from Michigan State, as well as familiarity with some of Alabama's coaching staff. VanDeMark played in 18 games for Michigan State and started eight. He had six starts at right guard in 2023, and two starts at right guard in 2022. VanDemark also worked at center while at Michigan State, and played offensive tackle in high school.

Alabama offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic coached at Michigan State from 2020 to 2023, so he is familiar with the recruitment and playing ability of VanDeMark.
