Davin Cosby Jr, the Unlikely Hero in Alabama’s 20th Win
Oxford, MS - The Alabama Crimson Tide secured their 20th win of the season late Wednesday night with a 103-88 win over the Ole Miss Rebels in Oxford, Mississippi.
The Crimson Tide's rotation was thin, with Latrell Wrightsell missing his third straight game due to a head injury he suffered leading up to the overtime win against the Florida Gators. While Wrightsell continues to get closer to playing, Alabama needed someone to step up in his absence.
An unlikely hero stepped up, particularly when Alabama started dealing with foul trouble with Stevenson, Griffen, and Nelson. Griffen and Nelson both fouled out late in the contest.
Davin Cosby Jr was a name that Oats mentioned in the pregame could get some good minutes in the first half, but his impact came in the second half for the Crimson Tide.
In the first half, Cosby made one shot from behind the arc for a total of 25% from three and three points. In the second half, Cosby exploded with 12 points and shot 4-6 from three.
Cosby's attitude and readiness were highlighted by teammate Aaron Estrada in the postgame, "He always practices hard, he always goes hard in every drill."
Coach Oats put it simply, "If we don’t have him tonight, we don’t win this game.”
Thankfully for Crimson Tide fans, Oats did have Cosby.
If Cosby stays hot like he did on Wednesday, Alabama might not have an issue taking care of No. 4 Tennessee. Alabama should be closer to full strength as a team, though. Latrell Wrightsell is still considered day-to-day with the head injury he suffered leading up to the Florida game.
