Alabama junior forward Galin Smith has entered the transfer portal according to AL.com's Matt Zenitz. Smith will be a graduate transfer and will be eligible to compete in the upcoming 2020-21 season. The Crimson Tide is currently one scholarship under the limit of 13, Smith's departure will give the basketball program a second open scholarship for the upcoming season.

Smith played in all 31 games this season for the Crimson Tide, starting in seven. He averaged 3.1 points, 2.5 rebounds and .8 blocks in 13.1 minutes per game. He shot 42% from the free-throw line this past season. His best game this season came in a home victory over LSU, he scored 10 points and pulled down six rebounds.

Smith is a 6-foot-9 center who was rated as a three-star prospect by 247Sports in 2016. The popular recruiting service rated him as the third best player in the state of Mississippi and the 29th best center in the nation entering college.

Coach Nate Oats said yesterday on The Gary Harris Show that his strong feeling is that Herb Jones returns for his senior season but said that he was not sure if John Petty Jr. would return to the Crimson Tide or go on to the NBA. Smith's departure opens up the scholarships for both Jones and Petty Jr. to return for the 2020-21 season.
